Proposal of new regulated parking areas for Mooloolaba

The proposal, which includes a combination of both council-owned land and privately owned car parks in the Mooloolaba area, will be open for community feedback over the next month until July 15.

“The new off-street regulated parking areas are time restricted and aim to encourage turnover and optimise the use of car spaces in Mooloolaba.”

Pacific Paradise comes to life with new streetscape upgrade and interactive motion sensor art work

Pacific Paradise’s commercial and cultural precinct has been revitalised by a council streetscape project that has brought Timari Street into a new age with vibrant public art, landscaping, lighting and seating.

“We have transformed Timari Street from an ugly street with minimal footpaths and gravel parking to a fantastic, community space," Cr OPray said.

Council approved five-star luxury resort in Buderim

A five-star luxury resort in the heart of Buderim, which will be the first of its type in the region, has been approved by Sunshine Coast Council at its ordinary meeting today.

Planning Portfolio Councillor Christian Dickson said he supported the proposal and was pleased that council voted in favour of his motion calling for the application to be approved.

$20 million Sippy Downs Drive project continues

“This upgrade is fantastic news for the Sippy Downs community and one I know they have been eagerly looking forward to,” Cr Dickson said.

The fourth and final stage of a $20 million duplication of Sippy Downs Drive, which will significantly improve traffic flow and create an entry statement into the Sunshine Coast’s Knowledge Precinct, will start mid-year.

Council bridging the gap between Mooloolaba's separated bikeway

The 5m-wide bridge will be an entry statement into Mooloolaba, spanning Mayes Canal and connecting the two complete stages of the region’s flagship separated bikeway and adjacent coastal pathways.

Construction is scheduled to start in the coming weeks and is due to be completed before December 2018.

Solar Farm savings close to $1M

Mayor Mark Jamieson said the strong electricity generation from the farm during January allowed council to offset 129% of its total power consumption.

Road rehabilitation improves driving safety and journey quality on 200 local roads

Local Councillor Greg Rogerson said in 2017/18, council’s $18.7 million Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program is delivering improvements to more than 200 local roads.

“This program is part of a 10-year $225 million investment by council to repair road failures, improve the road surface and renew line markings, ensuring residents and visitors have access to safe and high quality local roads,” Cr Rogerson said.

New campaign to drive more visitors to the Sunshine Coast

Visit Sunshine Coast is working in conjunction with local tourism organisations and chambers of commerce to launch the second phase of the Come to Life marketing campaign, targeting the surrounding drive market in South-East Queensland and beyond.

“This campaign is a great way to partner with sub-regional groups to increase destination awareness and encourage visitor dispersal from the surrounding drive market,” Visit Sunshine Coast CEO Simon Latchford said.

“Our council is open to hearing alternative approaches to managing the implementation of the State Government’s verge parking law,” Major Jamieson said.

Sunshine Coast Council has committed to further investigations on the verge parking issue after an “open and candid discussion” at today’s workshop attended by a cross-section of the local community.

Happy 50th Anniversary Sunshine Coast!

Today marks the official 50th Anniversary of the Naming of Sunshine Coast and celebrations are in full swing.

“It was exactly 50 years ago today that the words “Sunshine Coast” became our official name, taking over from the Near North Coast – and as everyone would agree it was a very wise decision by our forebears,” Mayor Jamieson said.

Sunshine Coast Solar Farm goes live in Australian first

The Sunshine Coast Solar Farm is now live and feeding electricity into the power grid, making Sunshine Coast Council the first local government in Australia to offset 100% of its electricity consumption with energy from a renewable source.

“We are the first council in Australia to build and operate a 15MW utility scale solar farm which will deliver $22 million in savings, after all costs, for our ratepayers over the next 30 years." said Mayor Mark Jamieson Read more

Increased Council Transport Levy to delivery Light Rail

This year the Transport Levy will move to $42, raising an estimated $5.7 million, taking the Transport Futures Fund to an estimated $9 million.

Sunshine Coast Council Transport Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the $15 increase in the annual Transport Levy would go directly towards building the Transport Futures Fund to focus on delivering the Sunshine Coast Light Rail Project. Read more

Have your say on the Council's draft parking management plan

A draft framework to proactively manage car parking across the Sunshine Coast was unveiled today and residents are invited to have their say.

Feedback received during the community consultation period will inform the final Sunshine Coast Council Parking Management Plan, which will then be presented to council for consideration.

Community feedback will close on Friday May 5, 2017.

Construction to start on two skate park upgrades in April

Skaters, BMX riders and scooter riders will enjoy two improved facilities later this year, with construction on a major skate park upgrade at Alexandra Headland and minor works at Coolum due to start in late April.

Construction is expected to be completed in November.
