Pacific Paradise comes to life with new streetscape upgrade and interactive motion sensor art work

Pacific Paradise’s commercial and cultural precinct has been revitalised by a council streetscape project that has brought Timari Street into a new age with vibrant public art, landscaping, lighting and seating.

The upgrade, which includes unique street furniture designs, has created a slow speed, walkable street environment with formalised car parking making it easier for people to visit.

Division 8 Councillor Jason OPray said he was excited to see the area transformed into an inviting public space arranged so the community could gather for events and outdoor dining.

“I’m really excited to see such a significant change in Pacific Paradise and I know the business community and residents are too,” Cr OPray said.

“We have transformed Timari Street from an ugly street with minimal footpaths and gravel parking to a fantastic, community space.

“The upgrade increases opportunities for local business development by attracting people to the area, providing outdoor dining areas and encouraging people to gather around the shops and the monthly markets.”

The public art work called Unfurling, a feature piece of the streetscape design, is a dynamic collaboration between renowned Sunshine Coast artists Rebecca Ward and Russell Anderson.

Unfurling emerges from the ground with an impressive 3.7m high triptych form and combines the artists’ love for nature and technology.

Cr OPray said the work was inspired by the wallum landscape that once dominated Pacific Paradise.

“The art work looks great during the day but comes to life at night, when it lights up with interaction motion sensor lighting,” he said.

“It will help activate the street at night by drawing people in to take a look and creating a point of interest for visitors and locals.”
